Welcome!
RE classes began September
13th & 14th
(We ask that all children bring a folding beach chair for classes
as we hope to meet outside weather permitting and we will need them when
classes meet inside as well)
As we reach the beginning of November, we are now beginning week 7 of our RE calendar year. With 7 weeks of catechesis, all students in grades 1-8 should be working to complete the 7th set of lessons in the My Catholic Faith Delivered program. Each child should be working to complete a lesson each week online along with coming to class.
As the cooler weather arrives, we will be holding our classes inside the school (and as Mercy Hall becomes available, we will utilize that space as well). Students are still asked to bring their beach chairs for these classes and are asked to wear masks.**

u Religious Ed Registrations:
Religious Ed Registration Forms were given out in March 2020 or mailed out shortly after to those families enrolled in classes this past year. Those hopefully expecting to have their child(ren) receive a Sacrament this year, need to register their children with St. John School or with our Religious Ed Office. If you would like an RE Registration Form emailed or mailed to you, please email smurphy@sje1.org & one will be sent. For those transferring from other parishes, please ensure that you register with our parish before trying to register with RE. Please ask the DRE from your previous parish to send a letter to the RE Office with detailed records on your child(ren)'s records of catechesis and Sacramental prep.
With the start of the new year, we at St. John the Evangelist are doing all we can to ensure the safety of our families and volunteers in preparing for the 2020-2021 year. The St. John RE program serves more than 500 students from our parish in grades Kindergarten through 12. Families are encouraged to register all children in first grade through high school who do not attend Catholic schools. Faith is a gift that must be cared for and encouraged to grow all the time, not just when we think it's convenient.
** Due to Covid there
are changes to our program. There are "In-Class" offerings,
and "Home School Special" offerings (new).
All of these children will receive a
textbook from the Faith and Life
Series. The online My Catholic Faith
Delivered program will facilitate learning the
catechism at home between classes with activities and homework.
It will also keep track of quizzes and tests to help meet the Diocesan
requirement for passing grades to advance to the next year. Both of
these are expected to be covered and done on a weekly basis and the
entire course completed by the beginning of May.
Students will also receive other supplemental materials for each grade
to help grow in their faith. Kindergarten will continue to use the
Loyola text and the High School classes will be using the
text Catholicism & Society from C.R. Publications.
Our "In-Class" students who are registered for
classes in grades 1-8 will be following a hybrid
model for classes (a blend of both online and in-person. The in-person sessions
are held at
specific times (Sessions) with lessons taught each week, and the My Catholic Faith
Delivered is the online program which parents will
guide at home.
Our "Home Schooling
Special" students in grades 1 through 8 is for those who are
associated with a class, but due to Covid concerns, their parents wish
to teach their children at home for this year. These students are
associated with a class, and a catechist will be in touch with the
parents to give them guidance and to answer questions they may have. The
students are still expected to have the course completed by the
beginning of May. Those who are "Home Schooling Special"
are always invited to join the classes throughout the year.
As in the past, the "Home Schooling" offering is for those attending other Catholic schools, and those "Home Schooling" for those who teach their children in all subjects.
Let us pray that this crisis ends soon. Stay healthy, safe and well. May God bless you & yours!
u CATECHISTS & ASSISTANTS ARE STILL NEEDED!
Please prayerfully consider helping this year. To the parents of children in the program…helping as an assistant in the classroom is a wonderful opportunity to serve the Church and learn alongside your child. It also gives you the opportunity to learn more about the role of catechist, if you’d like to consider that opportunity in the future.
As a token of appreciation for their service, catechists and aides receive free tuition. All volunteers are asked to complete the child protection forms and VIRTUS class through the Diocese of Arlington. The VIRTUS class is now offered electronically. Please take advantage of this opportunity while you can. Please call or email Sherin Murphy, at smurphy@sje1.org to discuss how you might be able to help as a catechist or assistant for the next school year.

Prayer for Confirmation
Holy Spirit, strengthen me with your gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord, and help me to serve as a disciple of Christ.
Grant that I may grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ. Fill me with the joy of your presence. Increase in me the fruit of your Spirit. Help me to experience and trust your dwelling within, so that I can count on your guidance today and every day.
Show us the way to help one another and to become better disciples of Jesus Christ, sharing your love with our world and with each person we meet.
Come, Holy Spirit! Come!

Saint Michael
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us
in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil
spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.
