Thank you for your patience.

The Diocese and all DREs are working together with their Pastors to prepare for the upcoming year's catechesis. We will register families for this year's classes while hoping for the best and preparing for other options. Planning continues using guidelines from the Diocese.   Please check back for updates. Here are the latest new announcements:

New RE Start Date:
RE classes will begin September 13th & 14th

RE Parent Meetings:
will be held August 23rd (times to be announced soon)

Registration Late fees have been moved back to Sept. 1st

With the start of the new year, we at St. John the Evangelist are doing all we can to ensure the safety of our families and volunteers in preparing for the 2020-2021 year. The St. John RE program serves more than 500 students from our parish in grades Kindergarten through 12. Families are encouraged to register all children in first grade through high school who do not attend Catholic schools. Faith is a gift that must be cared for and encouraged to grow all the time, not just when we think it's convenient.

Due to Covid there will be changes to our program.  Students registered for grades 1-8 will be following a hybrid model for classes (a blend of both online and in-person). See below:

The in-person sessions will be held at specific times (Sessions) and will most likely be held a couple times a month. We are working on setting up class space (outside is an option) and will let parents know soon.

We will register children (not Kindergarten or High School) for the My Catholic Faith Delivered online program (both those who are home schooling and attending classes).  In addition all children will receive a textbook from the Faith and Life Series. This online program will facilitate learning the catechism at home between classes with activities and homework.   It will also keep track of quizzes and tests to help meet the Diocesan requirement for passing grades to advance to the next year.

Students will also receive other supplemental materials for each grade to help grow in their faith.  Kindergarten will continue to use the Loyola text and the High School classes will be using the text Catholicism & Society from C.R. Publications.

Please prayerfully consider helping this year. To the parents of children in the program…helping as an assistant in the classroom is a wonderful opportunity to serve the Church and learn alongside your child. It also gives you the opportunity to learn more about the role of catechist, if you’d like to consider that opportunity in the future.

As a token of appreciation for their service, catechists and aides receive free tuition.  All volunteers are asked to complete the child protection forms and VIRTUS class through the Diocese of Arlington. The VIRTUS class is now offered electronically. Please take advantage of this opportunity while you can. Please call or email Sherin Murphy, at to discuss how you might be able to help as a catechist or assistant for the next school year.

Religious Ed Registration Forms were mailed to those families enrolled this past year. If you would like an  RE Registration Form emailed or mailed to you, please email & one will be sent.

Let us pray that this crisis ends soon.  Stay healthy, safe and well.  May God bless you & yours!

Saint Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
