“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Throughout the year the St. John's High School Youth Ministry is offered opportunities to help with this Parish Service Group.
HOOPS's mission is to practice the Corporal Works of Mercy by giving comfort, assistance and prayers to our parishioners in need.
This ministry aims to help our parish “care givers” &“shut ins”, people who live alone, taking care of a loved one, people with disabilities, anyone in need of help. What can we do? How do we help? It’s the little things that mean a lot; maybe just lend them an ear or take them a lunch. They need someone to be there, and they need our support and encouragement. Please consider volunteering and helping these fellow brothers and sisters.
There by the grace of God, go I. We are all busy. Someday we may need HOOPS Ministry.
Each year the High School Youth Group is given this awesome opportunity to help with this parish/community wide project.
We need gift wrappers and gift bag decorators and volunteers to wrap and bag many, many gifts. After an hour so, we can spend the rest of the time playing games and/or just hanging out. You can show up anytime during this 3 hour period. We just need your help with these hundreds of gifts.
Once again a few days later, we could use some help delivering Angel Tree gifts to some local residents before Christmas. We welcome parents and teens for this great day of making deliveries. When you arrive we will load up your cars with the bagged gifts and then set out to make the deliveries.
Each Year the St. John's High School Youth Group hosts a Lenten Dinner in Mercy Hall. The proceeds from this dinner will go towards expenses for BOTH WorkCamp AND Youth Group Activities.
We send out emails through SignUpGenius for volunteers and food donations. Volunteers are needed to set-up, help with last minute cooking, serve food and clean-up.
We may serve a delightful selection of a few soups (tomato/vegetable to name a few), macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches, and whatever we decide fits that year's need. We also have salad and bread. No desserts. We ask the 7th graders to help with food donations as well.
It's okay if you cannot work the entire 3 1/2 hours...just state the time you can work in the comment section of the SignUp.
For those who attend Stations of the Cross, we will be finished in time for you to attend with your families.
Thank you to all who help with this awesome event!!!
Each year St. John's High School Youth Group is asked to help host the Parish Easter Egg Hunt.
We ask that some of the High Schoolers to take time out of their busy Easter weekend schedule to spend a few hours providing a memorable morning for the youngsters of St. John's.
Volunteers are needed to hide the eggs in designated hunt areas, help supervise the children, clean up after the event.....AND wear the Easter Bunny costume!!
WorkCampers....this is another opportunity for you to meet your service hours requirement...and have a little fun too!
